Dr. Edward Chin, a professor in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism in the Department of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia, is the recipient of the 2021 Laureate Award from the Georgia chapter of the American College of Physicians.

The award, the chapter’s oldest and highest honor, honors fellows or masters of the College who have demonstrated abiding commitment to excellence in medical care, education or research and in service to their community, the chapter and the College.

Chin has served as the chapter’s vice president since 2015 and has been a member of its executive cabinet and Diversity/Equity/Inclusion Task Force. He also is a member of the Primary Care Physician Education Committee of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.

An honored educator, he received the Georgia ACP’s J. Willis Hurst Outstanding Bedside Teacher Chapter Award. He also has been honored with the MCG Exemplary Teaching Award every year since 2014.

Chin, a 1984 MCG graduate, joined the faculty at his alma mater in 2002 from the National Institutes of Health and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He also serves as chief of endocrinology at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center.

He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Rochester in New York and his fellowship in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.
