Augusta Tech Appoints New Members to College Board of Directors

Augusta Technical College is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to its College Board of Directors: Mr. Darnell Nicholas, Business Unit Leader at John Deere and Mr. Robert Collins, III, Strategic Human Resource Planner for the United States Army Signal Corps at Fort Gordon, Georgia.

Mr. Nicholas is a US Military Academy (West Point) graduate with a degree in systems engineering. He served in the military as a battalion intelligence officer, military intelligence detachment commander, brigade counter-intelligence officer and a troop commander. After his military service he began employment with John Deere where he currently serves as a business unit leader at their Grovetown, GA facility.

"In my discussions with Dr. Whirl, it was very interesting to see how much Augusta Tech has to offer and the direction the school is going. I’m excited at the possibility of becoming a part of it all and seeing how I can contribute to the team and the school," stated Mr. Nicholas.

Mr. Collins is a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel having served 22 years in Iraq, Korea, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and various assignments in the United States. He holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Mathematics from Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA, a Masters of Science in Information Management-Project Management from University of Arkansa-Grantham, and is a certified Project Management Professional. He has been been married for 20 years to his wife, Opal, and has four children (William, Kendra, Hannah, and Robert IV) and two yorkies, Winston and Chewy.

"It is a blessing and an honor to be apart of the Board of Directors," stated Mr. Collins. "This is an exciting time for Augusta Tech and it is a privilege to be a part of its evolution and add to its rich legacy."

With the addition of these new members, the Augusta Technical College Board of Directors will have 10 voting members.
