Augusta Sees Drop in September Unemployment Rate

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Augusta recorded an unemployment rate of 3.2 percent in September, down three-tenths of a percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 3.4 percent.

"We continue to see a steady rise in job creation and demand by employers to fill open positions,” said Commissioner Mark Butler. “This strong growth has led to Georgia having the fewest unemployed residents in over 20 years."

The labor force decreased in Augusta by 1,283 and ended the month with 262,889. That number went down by 2,339 when compared to September of 2021.

Augusta finished the month with 254,455 employed residents. That number decreased by 426 over the month and went down by 1,655 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Augusta ended September with 242,000 jobs. That number decreased by 1,300 from August to September and rose by 3,800 when compared to this time last year.

The number of unemployment claims went down by 14 percent in Augusta in September. When compared to last September, claims were down by about 15 percent.
