Augusta Technical College is excited to announce that the Division of Economic Development has received a $5,000 donation from West Fraser to fund its Summer 2023 Cougars Manufacturing Camp.

The goal of the camp is to inspire middle school age kids to consider a career in manufacturing and showcase the educational pathways of industrial mechanics. The camp will help allow disadvantaged populations to learn more about Augusta Technical Colleges campuses, programs and technical careers.

"We are thrilled to partner with Augusta Tech and support education in our local community," stated Alex Moses, West Fraser General Manager. "Investments like this help build a strong and skilled workforce in Augusta, and we are committed to doing our part."

Dr. Rebecca Stout, Augusta Technical College Vice President of Economic Development, stated, “We are so pleased to partner with West Fraser for their generous donation to help create the first manufacturing centric summer camps for middle-school kids in the summer of 2023 at the college. This is our first effort to help manufacturers inspire and encourage our youth to look for future career opportunities in areas unfamiliar to them. By removing the veil surrounding manufacturing jobs, kids will get a close-up view of what skills are needed for jobs in the industry and the many benefits they can reap from a life-long career in manufacturing.”

The Corporate and Community Education (CCE) team is working to develop a robust program of Cougar Camps for children in the CSRA.
