Local Law Groups Needed to Help Combat Summer Hunger

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Friday, March 29th, 2024

In partnership with Feeding Georgia and legal organizations across the state, Golden Harvest Food Bank is collecting donations for the 13th annual Georgia Legal Food Frenzy competition and is asking local law groups to assist with the collection efforts. The competition helps provide food assistance to children while they are out of school for the summer.

Each year, Feeding Georgia, the Georgia Attorney General, the State Bar, and the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar come together to raise funds to help feed children in need in their communities. In 2023, the local legal community collectively raised $30,573 for Golden Harvest Food Bank, which equates to over 76,000 meals.

The Georgia Legal Food Frenzy contest runs for two weeks from April 15 – 26 and all monetary donations collected locally are donated directly to Golden Harvest Food Bank to provide food for children located in the organization’s 11,000 square mile service area during the summer months

“We are grateful for the solidarity of our local legal community coming together to raise funds to help provide food for children in our area,” said Amy Breitmann, President & CEO, Golden Harvest Food Bank. “With 1 in 6 children across our 19 Georgia counties facing the harsh reality of food insecurity, it is extremely important that we join forces in ensuring no child goes to bed hungry.”

Law firms, legal organizations, corporate or in-house counsel, clerks, and judges are encouraged to sign up at www.galegalfoodfrenzy.org/sign-up. Teams that register for the Legal Food Frenzy competition by the early deadline of April 1st will receive bonus points to add to their final score. Groups will still have the opportunity to register after the early deadline and throughout the duration of the competition.
