Augusta's March Unemployment Rate Drops Amid Solid Job Sector Growth

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Augusta recorded an unemployment rate of 3.7 percent in March, down one-tenth over-the-month. A year ago, the rate was 3.6 percent.

“Georgia’s job market is red hot with opportunity,” said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “This continuous growth is a strong indicator that our economic momentum is not slowing down any time soon. Once again, Georgia continues to shatter records in growing businesses statewide and creating jobs for hardworking Georgians.”

The labor force increased in Augusta by 3,657 and ended the month with 269,234. That number went up by 3,147 when compared to March of 2023.

Augusta finished the month with 259,265 employed residents. That number increased by 3,677 over-the-month and rose by 2,886 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Augusta ended March with 246,800 jobs. That number increased by 2,600 from February to March and was up by 1,500 when compared to this time last year.

In March, initial unemployment claims decreased by 217 (-25%) in Augusta. When you compare March 2024 claims to March 2023, claims were down by 181 (-21%).
