Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) and Clemson University jointly appointed Ramtin Hadidi, Ph.D., to expand collaborative grid infrastructure efforts between SRNL and Clemson.

Hadidi’s research focuses on power and energy system modeling and simulation, integration, testing and standardization of distributed energy resources, microgrids control, power system stability studies, controller hardware-in-the-loop and power hardware-in-the-loop testing and co-simulation environment for power systems. Hadidi is an associate professor in the Holcombe Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Clemson University in Charleston, South Carolina. He was previously a research scientist at the Duke Energy eGRID Center at the Clemson University Restoration Institute in Charleston.

“Dr. Hadid’s expertise and proximity to Clemson’s eGRID facility augment SRNL’s programmatic efforts in grid infrastructure,” said SRNL Deputy Laboratory Director, Science and Technology, Sue Clark. “We look forward to collaborating with Dr. Hadidi and his colleagues at Clemson to address security challenges in the US energy sector.”

“I am very grateful for the joint appointment and opportunity to work closely with the talented team at SRNL,” said Hadidi. “The prospect of working together to research and develop ways to modernize and improve grid infrastructure is tremendously exciting, and the new role will provide a platform for significantly enhanced synergies in our research endeavors together.”

SRNL’s Joint Appointment Program provides university faculty opportunities to engage in research and development addressing the nation’s challenges in environmental stewardship, national security, and energy transformation.  Together, SRNL staff and joint appointees help ensure America’s security and prosperity through transformative science and technology solutions.  Joint appointees serve as a bridge between their university and SRNL researchers to deliver the future workforce for the Department of Energy.

Hadidi’s joint appointment is the third for Clemson and SRNL.

“The joint appointment program provides unique research opportunities for Clemson faculty and students and further strengthens a long-standing collaboration with SRNL to advance research that addresses critical societal issues while preparing a skilled workforce for the state’s growing energy and environmental sectors,” said Tanju Karanfil, senior vice president for research, scholarship and creative endeavor at Clemson.
