Rep. Rick Allen, Peers Fight Cuts to Fort Gordon Hospital

On Wednesday, U.S. Rep. Rick Allen and colleagues across the region asked the secretary of war to immediately halt plans to gut Fort Gordon’s hospital.
The Defense Health Agency this week confirmed its intent to downgrade Eisenhower Army Medical Center to an ambulatory health care facility. While it will still offer medical services, it won’t be an inpatient hospital.
Meanwhile, News 12 learned Wednesday that outpatient main and exchange pharmacy services will remain available. That’s been the top question we’ve received from viewers since we broke the story about the cuts.
In writing his letter to War Secretary Pete Hegseth, Allen, R-Augusta, was joined by Georgia U.S. Reps Austin Scott, Buddy Carter and Brian Jack as well as South Carolina U.S. Reps. Joe Wilson and Sheri Biggs.
