Metro Augusta’s Unemployment Rate Rises to 6.6% in May

The Georgia Department of Labor announced today that Metro Augusta’s unemployment rate for May was 6.6 percent, up five-tenths of a percentage point from 6.1 percent in April. The rate rose as the number of jobs declined and new layoffs increased in the region.

Georgia Nets Low Rates, Earns Top Marks for Bonds

Gov. Nathan Deal announced that Georgia has maintained its AAA bond rating and sold $1.28 billion in three different series of general obligation bonds to fund capital projects throughout the state, which range from construction on new university buildings to repairs on state bridges. A portion of these sales will also refund outstanding bonds to achieve savings.
