The United Nations Association (UNA) of Georgia/Carolinas will host the UN75 “What a Wonderful World” Virtual Global Conversation to reach the local community and its global neighbors on June 10, 2020, at 1:00PM.  In celebrating the United Nations 75th Anniversary, UN75 is the largest, most inclusive conversation that will spark dialogues throughout 2020 in diverse settings across the world.

The Honorable Mayor Hardie Davis of Augusta, Georgia will bring remarks to open the UN75 virtual conversation. “I am honored to be a part of a conversation that brings a diverse group of leaders together to lift their voices during a time our nation is experiencing great unrest. These conversations could lead to much needed change in social and economic justice, for the advancement of our nation.” said, Mayor Hardie Davis.

U.S. United Nations Ambassador, Andrew J. Young will serve as the keynote speaker. Ambassador Young has earned worldwide recognition as a pioneer and champion of civil and human rights. His lifelong dedication to service is illustrated by his extensive leadership experience of over sixty-five years, serving as a member of Congress, Mayor of Atlanta, an ordained minister, and various other positions.

In calling for participation, the Secretary-General stated: “No country, no community, is able to solve the complex problems of our world alone. We need to come together, not only to talk, but to listen. It is absolutely essential that you all join the conversation. We need your opinion, your strategies and your ideas for us to be able to deliver better for the people of the world that we must serve.”

In a global listening exercise, with an emphasis on youth and organizations not currently engaged with the UN, the UN75 initiative aims to better understand expectations of international cooperation, in light of pressing domestic and global challenges. The views and ideas that are generated will be presented, by the Secretary-General, world leaders and senior UN officials on September 21, 2020, from the United Nations Secretary-General at a high-level event to mark the 75th anniversary.
