Augusta Sees a Drop in Unemployment Rate & Increase in Employed in July

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Augusta saw a decrease in the unemployment rate over the month as the number of employed rose over 300 in July.  

"We are seeing positive labor market data across the state,” said Commissioner Butler. “The unemployment rate is down in every region, county, and metropolitan statistical area reflecting the strength of our state’s economy. Career opportunities remain high for job seekers as we continue to see rising jobs numbers in metro and rural areas throughout Georgia.”

In Augusta, the unemployment rate was down eight-tenths to 3.6 percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 7.1 percent.

The labor force decreased in Augusta by 2,091 and ended the month with 270,968. That number is up 5,868 when compared to July of 2020.

Augusta finished the month with 261,304 employed residents.  That number increased by 370 over the month and is up by 14,948 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Augusta ended July with 237,800 jobs. That number decreased by 1,400 from June to July and increased by 8,900 when compared to this time last year.

The number of unemployment claims in Augusta went down by 38 percent in July. When compared to last July, claims were down by about 86 percent.

Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 6,491 active job postings in Augusta for July.
