PCL Construction joined the Augusta-Richmond County Coliseum Authority at a groundbreaking ceremony on June 25 for the New Augusta Arena, a modern venue that will be a top entertainment and sports destination in the Augusta, Georgia metro area. The arena is set to create 600 permanent jobs and bring $1.6 billion to the region when finished.
The new facility will replace the James Brown Arena, scheduled for demolition this fall, and offer an enhanced experience including additional seating, public spaces and versatile hosting capabilities for sports, entertainment and family activities.
PCL Construction, McKnight Construction Co, and J&B Construction and Services, Inc. form the construction management team for this exciting project with Perkins & Will serving as the architect for the new complex.
“We are grateful to be a part of the construction management team for the New Augusta Arena. The new venue will truly move the mark for the city, boosting its economy and offering a destination that welcomes visitors and locals alike,” said Rick Goldman, PCL senior vice president.
The New Augusta Arena will house over 10,500 seats, including 12 luxury suites, loge boxes, and a club-level experience with private bar. Outside the arena, a promenade and greenspace create the opportunity for community gatherings and activities. Meeting rooms, a ballroom, and a rooftop terrace with views of Augusta's skyline will accommodate events and conventions.
"The New Augusta Arena will be a state-of-the-art venue that creates hundreds of jobs and millions in economic investment right here in our community," said Cedric Johnson, Chairman of the Augusta-Richmond County Coliseum Authority, who will own the completed arena. "This is a historic project with generational impact, and we trust PCL-McKnight-J&B to use their unmatched experience and expertise to turn our vision into reality. Together, we are building Augusta's Future."
