The Augusta Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) and the Augusta Sports Council (ASC) are pleased to announce that visitors attending meetings, reunions, events and/or sporting events in Augusta will generate at least $9,975,585.20 in direct visitor spending over the month of July.

Metro Augusta’s Unemployment Rate Rises to 6.6% in May

The Georgia Department of Labor announced today that Metro Augusta’s unemployment rate for May was 6.6 percent, up five-tenths of a percentage point from 6.1 percent in April. The rate rose as the number of jobs declined and new layoffs increased in the region.

Georgia Nets Low Rates, Earns Top Marks for Bonds

Gov. Nathan Deal announced that Georgia has maintained its AAA bond rating and sold $1.28 billion in three different series of general obligation bonds to fund capital projects throughout the state, which range from construction on new university buildings to repairs on state bridges. A portion of these sales will also refund outstanding bonds to achieve savings.

Augusta Leading Economic Index Decreases

In March, the Hull College of Business Augusta LEI decreased at a rate of 0.32% from February. It signals the first decrease in the LEI in the 12 month period since February of 2014. Despite this minor decrease in the index, the year-to-date rate of LEI growth from March of 2014 is still holding strong at 5.7%. This represents the second highest year-to-year growth rate in the LEI since December of 2013.
