Aflac Lands on Dow Jones Sustainability Index North America List

Aflac, the number one provider of supplemental insurance in the United States, announced today that the company has been named to the 2013 Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) North America list. This is the third consecutive year that Aflac has earned this prestigious status.
In the 2013 survey, Aflac achieved particularly high marks among companies appearing on the North America list in core business areas such as Corporate Governance (96th percentile), Supply Chain Management (80th percentile) and Operational Eco-Efficiency (74th percentile). Aflac is one of only four U.S. insurers to make the North America index.
The DJSI follow a best-in-class approach, including companies across all industries that outperform their peers in numerous sustainability metrics. RobecoSAM invites over 3,000 publicly traded companies, including 800 companies in emerging markets, to report annually on their sustainability practices. Launched in 1999, the DJSI were the first global indices to track the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide.

The Corporate Sustainability Assessment provides an in-depth analysis of financially material economic, environmental and social practices, such as innovation or supply chain management, climate strategy and stakeholder engagement and places a special focus on industry-specific risks and opportunities.
