An Augusta bank president will become the chairman of the American Bankers Association in two years.

Dan Blanton, the chief executive officer for Georgia Bank & Trust, was elected vice chairman of the national banking organization Tuesday at its annual convention in New Orleans, meaning he will be chairman-elect next year and then chairman in 2015.

Blanton was elected to the association’s board of directors in 2010 and has been a member of its Community Bankers Council since 2004.

“This is a tremendous honor for Dan to serve the industry in such an important national role and is a great recognition for Georgia Bank & Trust,” said E. G. Meybohm, the chairman of the bank’s board of directors.
