While it has been a good year overall for the Georgia Ports Authority, the Port of Brunswick’s performance has been nothing short of outstanding, GPA executive director Curtis Foltz told an appreciative audience Wednesday in his annual “State of the Brunswick Ports” address.

“According to the latest figures available, the Port of Brunswick is now the nation’s top location for the import of new vehicles,” Foltz announced to the group of 250-plus business leaders gathered at the Jekyll Island Convention Center.

Every year in February, the American Association of Port Authorities conducts a wide-ranging survey of ports on their cargo volumes for the previous calendar year. Part of that annual survey covers roll-on/roll-off imports and exports.

In the latest survey, Brunswick imported 487,622 new vehicles in 2012, followed by the Port of New York/

New Jersey at 404,975 and the Port of Baltimore with 313,674.
