Hankook Chooses Tennessee Over Georgia for First U.S. Plant
Tuesday, October 15th, 2013
Georgia lost its bid to land the first U.S. manufacturing plant for Hankook Tire Co. Ltd.
South Korea-based Hankook chose Clarksville, Tenn., to build a plant that will bring 1,800 jobs to the region and represent an investment of at least $800 million, according to the Nashville Business Journal.
The paper is a sister publication of Atlanta Business Chronicle.
As late as July, two Georgia sites had emerged as favorites to land the plant. Hankook considered co-locating its operations in West Point, Ga., next to the Kia Motors plant, according to people familiar with the process. Hankook has a long-standing partnership with Kia Motors Corp., Korea’s oldest automaker.
