Engineers Slam Georgia on Infrastructure Spending

A business organization used the opening day of the 2014 General Assembly session Monday to criticize Georgia policy makers for underfunding infrastructure.

The state section of the American Society of Civil Engineers released a report card giving Georgia’s infrastructure a grade of “C,” unchanged from the group’s 2009 evaluation.

The state’s dams and transit systems scored lowest, receiving grades of “D-minus,” while energy and rail systems received “B” grades, the highest in the engineers’ report.

“From the Atlanta airport to the Port of Savannah, Georgia is a major player in the global economy,” said Kat Gurd, the group’s president. “This report card shows our connections with that economy are ailing, hurt too often by underfunding and increasing congestion.”
