Augusta-Based Bell Ranger Outdoor Apparel Strikes New Deals

A nearly 60-year-old Augusta apparel company that cut its teeth on supplying Army-Navy surplus stores acquired the license to three brands that could boost its business to the point that it needs a larger facility.

Bell Ranger Outdoor Apparel, headquartered on Crescent Drive, acquired the license for U.S. Angler, Outdoor Legends and HillBilly – seen on the TV show Shark Tank in 2011 with Jeff Foxworthy as an investor – and will begin manufacturing and distributing clothing with those brand names.

The company has been a supplier of hunting and military apparel since 1957, with clothing appearing in outdoor retailers such as Academy Sports, Bass Pro Shops and Gander Mountain.

“This is bigger than anything we’ve ever had,” said Joe Levy, the company president. “U.S. Angler is mainly a fishing brand. Randy McGovern is one of the most well-known wildlife artists in the world. He hand-paints these fish. We have a library of images from his art that we are able to transpose onto a garment.”
