Growth at Fort Gordon Means Big Changes for Augusta
Friday, April 25th, 2014
Fort Gordon’s new Cyber Command Center is coming, bringing with it not only thousands of new residents, but also questions and misconceptions.
The Command unit will bring about 700 jobs to Fort Gordon – but it’s just a small part – and the last, of several new and expanding missions at the post.
“This is unprecedented,” said Thom Tuckey of the CSRA Alliance for Fort Gordon. “Through 2019, Fort Gordon will add 4000 jobs.”
It’s the biggest change to come to Augusta since the Savannah River Site last century. Military and city leaders say Augusta residents don’t fully comprehend the impact the missions will have on life in the community.
“People can’t grasp just how big a deal this is,” Tuckey said.
