The Augusta RiverHawks have been renamed the Macon Mayhem, as of Wednesday morning, after the Southern Professional Hockey League approved the team's move to become Macon's new hockey team.

The RiverHawks have been an Augusta attraction since 2010. They played almost 3 seasons at the James Brown Arena before they were forced out of the arena. With 8 games left in last year's season, a pipe burst underneath the ice at the venue. This incident forced the team out of their home arena and into a very small ice rink, the Augusta Ice Sports Center.

Duncan Crera is the owner of Augusta Ice Sports Center and says this news is does not come as a shock to him. "With James Brown not fixing their ice, the team has no choice but to leave town. They can’t play here, we don’t have enough seating," Crera said.

Crera and some of his employees say they are sad to see the team go because the community is losing a professional hockey team, but this move will not affect him financially. He plans on staying where he is and to continue making revenue, regardless of the RiverHawks. "As far as business goes, the financial side, it really has minimal impact on us, but the community has a big impact," Crera said.
