Georgia Tech President Visits Augusta as Part of Summer Tour

Georgia Institute of Technology President G.P. Peterson began his annual summer tour of Georgia in Augusta on Monday, meeting with local industrial and media representatives to discuss how Georgia Tech influences economic and educational opportunities in the city.
Peterson visited the Solvay Advanced Polymers company, a Georgia Tech Alumni gathering and The Augusta Chronicle during his visit, answering questions about Georgia Tech’s programs and detailing how the university has affected Augusta in a positive fashion.
“We don’t just exist for Atlanta. We have a positive effect everywhere and we want to help out how we can,” Peterson said. “Not many people know that 63 percent of our student body is from Georgia. And over half of those that graduate from us will work here in Georgia. That affects everyone here.”
Peterson said the university also “created or saved” 400 Augusta jobs in 2013, mainly through partnering with East Georgia manufacturing companies to reduce operating costs.
