The Sunset Music & Arts at Heritage Pine concert series continue onSeptember 6 with contemporary gospel artist Trey McLaughlin & Sounds of Zamar. This free event begins at 7:30pm at the Heritage Pine pocket park (1229 Pine St) in the historic Laney Walker Bethlehem district. Please bring seating and picnic.
Jazz on Pine began in the fall of 2013 as a four-week celebration of local music and art, taking place in the Heritage Pine Pocket Park in the beautiful historic Laney Walker Bethlehem Community in Augusta, Georgia. Concerts are free to the public. Guests were encouraged to bring seating and picnic. (Jazz On Pine 2013)
The concert series, a public-private partnership between the Heritage Pine Neighborhood Association, Garden City Jazz, and Augusta Housing & Community Development, was such a success for the residents and visitors of the community that organizers decided to add three more concerts to the 2013 series.
The series has grown to include nine monthly events, which started first Saturdays in March 2014 and continues through November. The event has been re-branded to reflect more diverse musical offerings, including blues, soul, and contemporary gospel; as well as a visual arts component. It is now called "Sunset Music & Arts at Heritage Pine."
"What's most rewarding is the sense of community I witness at each concert - it feels like a family reunion. Children ride bikes through the park, homeowners set food and drink on their porches and invite any and all to partake. I'm excited to see this area restored to its former glory and so many coming home to Laney Walker," Karen Gordon, director of Garden City Jazz, said.
"I had the opportunity to host a small group meeting of creative people and community leaders earlier this week (sa*lon: music.idea.art.conversation). Afterward, we sat on the porch with the host family and learned how unique and important this development is to Laney Walker Bethlehem and the greater community. Today the City breaks ground on the new Twiggs Circle development. I'm excited to see downtown restored to its former glory, and so many coming home to Laney Walker," Karen Gordon said.
