Four Aiken Technical College Radiation Protection Technology (RPT) students were awarded with a certificate of special recognition for superior performance in the Nuclear Uniform Curriculum Program (NUCP).

Zinaida Armosova-Jones, Robert Desiders, Sean McLaren and Duong Nguyen were honored for their achievements at a ceremony on campus this month.

To receive this distinction, each student was required to complete ATC’s Radiation Protection Technology Associate’s degree program, receive a diploma, and obtain a B letter grade or greater in all program-related courses.

 “This is a rigorous program that takes a great deal of effort on the students’ part,” said ATC Radiation Protection Technology Instructor David Deal. “Receiving this distinction sets them apart as ‘elite’ and gives them an employment credential that will make them preferred candidates in the nuclear industry.”

The NUCP certification is good for up to two years after the issue date and gives student recipients an industry certification that may exempt them from a large portion of an employer’s initial training program, creating time and cost savings for future employers.

The students’ certificates were awarded by industry partner SCANA and the National Academy for Nuclear Training.
