Georgia-Carolina Bancshares Shareholders Approve Acquisition by State Bank Financial Corp.

One of Augusta’s oldest locally owned banks will belong to an expanding Atlanta-based financial institution in January.
Shareholders of Georgia-Carolina Bancshares, the owner of First Bank of Georgia, on Thursday approved the merger acquisition by State Bank Financial Corp. First Bank will remain a stand-alone bank in the corporation, which also owns banks in Macon and Warner Robins, Ga.
