Press release from the issuing company
Thursday, December 4th, 2014
Just in time for seasonal giving, CSRA residents will have greater convenience for donating clothing, books and household items to Goodwill with the opening of a new attended donation center on Wednesday, Nov. 26, east of Augusta Mall.
Located on the site of the recently closed Mr. Furniture store at 3360 Wrightsboro Road, the CSRA’s 10thGoodwill donation location will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., starting Wednesday. The site will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, and the donation truck and uniformed attendant will resume a regular schedule on Black Friday.
The attended donation center represents an expansion of Goodwill donation sites to an underserved portion of the community, providing a convenient alternative to unattended for-profit collection boxes scattered throughout the area, said James K. Stiff, President of Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia and the CSRA.
“This site in a growing, bustling part of Augusta will offer more opportunities for giving to generous residents of the area and visitors to Augusta Mall and the new Walmart Supercenter,” Stiff said. “It also will allow Goodwill to gauge the interest in building a permanent donation center or retail training store in that area of the CSRA to help build our efforts to serve the community through our career services programs.”
Revenue from the sale of donated goods to Goodwill provides funding for job training, education and career development services, including post-secondary opportunities at Helms College. During the past five years, through such programs at the Job Connection, Good Vocations and Goodwill Staffing Services, Goodwill has found employment for more than 12,000 individuals – including those with disabilities or other barriers to employment – while creating an estimated annual new payroll economic impact of $375 million.
