Healthcare Georgia Foundation Announces Twenty-One Fourth-Quarter Grants

Healthcare Georgia Foundation recently announced twenty-one grants totaling $1,561,600. The fourth-quarter grants complete the Foundation’s 2014 awards, which totaled $3,936,150. Additionally, the Foundation funded seventy-one organizations and programs benefitting the health of Georgians in 2014, the highest number of annual awards since the Foundation first began its grantmaking in 2002.
Reflected in the grant awards is the Foundation’s support of the second year of Taking Care of You, the Foundation’s Infant Mortality Initiative. Taking Care of You is an evidence-based approach to reducing low birth weight, premature births and SIDS among high risk pregnant women. “Since the program’s inception over the past few years, Georgia mothers and their babies have already begun to experience the benefits of this initiative,” said Gary D. Nelson, president, Healthcare Georgia Foundation. “As Taking Care of You moves forward, we continue to be optimistic about the positive impact this public/private partnership will have on maternal and infant health in the regions of our state exhibiting the highest rates of adverse birth outcomes.”
