Efforts to Regulate Augusta Commission Members' Travel Rejected

Augusta Commission members nixed plans for a $15,000 speaker notification system capable of muting their microphones and held off on requiring commission approval for out-of-state trips at taxpayers’ expense during Monday committee meetings.
Mayor Pro Tem Grady Smith, who proposed requiring that the commission OK member travel beforehand, said it would ensure appropriate representation at conferences and avoid waste.
“We don’t need five commissioners jumping on a plane to see if we need a crosswalk up on Reynolds Street,” Smith said.
