United Way of the CSRA will host the 3^rd Annual Basketball Tournament on Saturday, March 21, at the Paine College HEAL Complex.  Eight teams from local businesses will compete in the tournament which is being sponsored by Presenting Sponsor: American Family Insurance, and Media Sponsors: The Augusta Chronicle and WJBF News Channel 6. 

Saturday’s competition will begin at 9:00 am with the following teams competing:  American Family Insurance vs. Television Park All Stars; Kellogg’s vs. The Wilson Family YMCA; Paine College vs. Tabernacle Church; Columbia County vs. Richmond County.  Around Noon, a special competition will take place with Columbia County Government competing against Richmond County Government employees.  This should be a fun, competitive match up, so make plans to come out and cheer-on your favorite team.  The final championship game will be played around 3:30 pm with the two winners of the playoffs competing for the championship.     

For the third year, the event has been led by a group of young professional women: Liz Pinkus-McKechnie and Tonia Gibbons.  The committee also included Gabriel Gadson from Paine College, and Nathan Palm from WJBF News Channel 6.  The committee has worked diligently over the past few months to pull together the teams and many volunteers needed for a successful event.  Jay Jefferies, WAGT, will be on hand to call the games and keep everything on track.   

United Way invites the community to come out and cheer-on your favorite team.  Proceeds from the event will benefit local health and human service programs that make a difference in the lives of local citizens every day.
