Augusta-Born Governor Recorded Historic Term in Leading Peach State

Let us take a moment to honor Carl Sanders, Georgia’s first New South governor, who died Nov. 16, 2014. Had he lived until May 15, he would have been 90 years old.

Fortune smiled on the handsome, athletic Augustan. He married a beauty queen and achieved noteworthy success in politics, business and law. In addition, he was a good family man and a generous philanthropist. Sanders lived a full and productive life, but he is best remembered for his four years as governor.
