Representatives from The Salvation Army will participate in Airport Disaster live emergency drill Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at the Augusta Regional Airport.  The Federal Aviation Administration requires airports to conduct a live emergency drill every 3 years. 

The exercise included 100 volunteers who played the role of passengers/victims and 25 local emergency personnel including agencies from Richmond County, local hospitals and other community organizations. The responders joined the Airport personnel in practicing procedures needed in event of an actual aircraft accident or emergency.

“This training exercise plays an important role in emergency preparedness and inter-agency cooperation” says Major Tony Perez, Area Commander of Augusta. “While every disaster is unique and creates its own special needs, the core of The Salvation Army's disaster program is helping to meet basic needs to victims and responders.” 

The Salvation Army’s role during this event was to respond with its emergency canteen as well as Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) personnel and volunteers to provide hydration and snacks throughout the exercise.
