Augusta attorney Robert Kerr was recently appointed to the position of special assistant to the Attorney General of the state of Georgia. In this position, Attorney Kerr will represent the Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) in Richmond, Columbia and Burke counties during legal dependency proceedings.

“This is a role that directly impacts the future of children at risk in our area and I consider it an honor to be entrusted to be special assistant to the attorney general,” said Kerr. “A dependency hearing is a court proceeding involving a juvenile, most often in cases of abuse or neglect. I will be representing DFCS when state intervention is necessary to protect a child’s welfare.” 

Kerr is also a member of Glover, Blount & Kerr. Prior to his current practice and special assistant appointment, Kerr established Kerr Law, P.C., successfully representing hundreds of clients across the United States in state and federal court who suffered from disabling conditions such as fibromyalgia, lower back pain, neck pain, depression and anxiety.

Kerr graduated Magna Cum Laude from St. Thomas University School of Law, Miami Gardens, Florida, where he was named a Dean's Fellow for Property Law and was executive editor of the St. Thomas University School of Law Intercultural Human Rights Law Review. 

Additionally, Kerr received a Merit Scholarship and the “Award for Excellence in the Study of Health Law” from the American Bar Association/Bureau of National Affairs while at St. Thomas University. 

Kerr received his undegraduate degree in Health & Society from the University of Rochester, Rochester, New York. After graduation, he worked in clinical trials, facilitating research geared towards obtaining FDA approval of drugs and medical devices.

His published works include author of “The Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act of 2005: Who Should Pay for Improved Outcomes?” and co-author of two papers, “Cost Effectiveness of Catheter Ablation in Patients with Ventricular Tachycardia” and “Selling in Managed Care Areas.”

Kerr and his wife, Jennifer Tritt Kerr, Augusta native and attorney with Warlick, Stebbins, Murray & Chew, LLP, have two daughters, one son and one grandson.
