The Family YMCA of Greater Augusta and the Children’s Hospital of Georgia will break ground on the Camp Lakeside renovations on June 22 at 11:00 am at the Family Y’s Camp Lakeside, 1238 Dogwood Drive, Lincolnton.
“Camp Lakeside has been a place where many local children have spent their summers making life-long memories at YMCA summer camp in the CSRA,” says Danny McConnell, President/CEO of the Family YMCA of Greater Augusta, “We’re looking forward to opening Camp Lakeside so children of all abilities will be able to experience what Y summer camp feels like.”
This first phase of the Camp Lakeside renovations includes construction of the medical facility and multi-purpose room. Future plans include an outdoor pool and 10 adapted cabins. Upon completion of all construction, this site will host the traditional Family YMCA camps, along with the special needs camps including Camp Rainbow, Camp Joint Venture, Camp Sweet Life, Camp Strong Heart, Camp Care and Share and a new camp for children with developmental delays, Camp IVEY. “Camp Lakeside will enable sick children treated at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia an opportunity to enjoy a typical summer camp experience,” says Kimberly Allen, Director of Camp Rainbow for the Children’s Hospital of Georgia. “Through the support of our community and medical team, more children will be able to forget about their illness and enjoy the outdoors as well as other summer camp fun, close in proximity to the hospital.”
