Heat Wave Fills The Salvation Army Shelter

This week of 100 degree temperatures in Augusta has The Salvation Army’s shelter full every night this week. As heat advisory warnings have been issued across Georgia, the heat has driven the homeless and those without air conditioning into The Salvation Army’s Center of Hope emergency shelter for the night. 

“The Salvation Army is always there for people in need, whether an ice storm we had in the winter of 2014 or a heat wave” says Major Tony Perez, Area Commander of The Salvation Army in August.

Our evening shelters serve men, women and women with children, offering spiritual and physical care, food, and shelter to people in need. Our shelters are night shelters only, for a list of Cooling Centers during the day go to the City of Augusta Emergency Management website: www.augustaga.gov/Facilities?clear=False

An evening meal is also available 365 days a year to anyone in the community who needs a meal. Dinner is served at the Center of Hope from 5:30pm to 5:50pm Monday- Saturday, and from 4:00pm to 4:20pm on Sundays, at the Center of Hope is at 1384 Greene Street in Augusta.
