Augusta Commissioners' Base Pay Boosted by Adjustments

Taxpayers might be surprised to learn that Augusta’s mayor and 10-member commission pocket thousands more than the base salaries prescribed by the city charter, thanks to state laws granting cost-of-living and other adjustments.
It’s a complicated formula applied to a commissioner’s $12,000 base salary by the law department – which informed Commissioner Wayne Guilfoyle last week that neither he nor Commissioner Marion Williams were receiving percentage “longevity” increases for being re-elected.
