Georgia Senate OKs Income Tax Cut

Georgians would get a state income cut under legislation approved by the Republican-controlled state Senate late Wednesday.

The bill, which passed 35-17 along party lines, would reduce the top state income tax rate from 6 percent to 5.4 percent, a move supporters said would keep Georgia competitive with neighboring states that either don’t have an income tax or a lower tax rate than Georgia.
