The Augusta GreenJackets, South Atlantic League affiliate of San Francisco Giants, got a 5-1 victory over the Kannapolis Intimidators Wednesday afternoon.
The scoring started early for the GreenJackets, when Shane Matheny tripled to center field which scored Heliot Ramos from first. This was followed by a grounder to first from Jean Angomas, that scored Matheny from third.
Then in the second inning, Ramos hit his first home run as a GreenJacket. His towering home run to left field gave the GreenJackets a 3-0 lead.
In the fifth the GreenJackets were back at it when a single from Manuel Geraldo scored Angomas from second and Matheny from third. This gave the GreenJackets a 5-0 lead that they would not relinquish.
On the mound for the GreenJackets, John Gavin was once again impressive in his third start in the 2018 season. Gavin went five innings only giving up five hits and one run. From there the GreenJackets gave the ball to Frank Rubio, who went two innings only giving up a hit. Then the GreenJackets brought in Franklin Van Gurp, who continued his dominance. He went two innings giving up no hits once again. In eight innings of relief this season, Van Gurp has yet to give up a hit.
The GreenJackets took two games out of three from the Intimidators at SRP Park. Next they are off to Rome for a four game series against the Braves.
