Kirby: Empty Stocking Fund Concert, Pioneer Day Highlight Weekend Events

While reading old newspapers about the end of World War I, I came across the curious case of Augusta’s Patrick Mell. In the closing days of the Great War, The Chronicle reported Mell’s heroism as an airplane pilot. His outnumbered unit took on 14 German Fokkers and proved victorious with Mell knocking out two of them.
