National news reports daily cover the impending unmet needs for Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for health care professionals in the fight against COVID-19. Goodwill is taking steps to ensure area health care providers are well-equipped with PPE.

“Any efforts to support the medical community on the front lines of this pandemic are very much appreciated. Personal protective equipment has become one of the most sought-after resources during the response to COVID-19 as it is the first line of defense for healthcare workers. We’re so grateful for the support we are receiving from our community, and we thank Goodwill for their efforts to help to gather PPE. From food, to supplies, to supportive signs, it’s clear that we’re all in this together,” said Stephen J. Daugherty, Chief Executive Officer for Coliseum Health System.

Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia and the CSRA suspended retail shopping operations at its 16 resale training stores. But the charity, which funds much of its education and job placement services through sales in those stores, has kept most of its attended donation locations open to accept PPE drop offs as well as gently used donations for eventual placement on its sales floor once the health crisis has passed.

“People are spending a lot of time at home these days, but there are still essential errands that have to be run,” noted James Stiff, President and CEO of GIMG. “We hope along the way they’ll drop by one of our donation locations. Our ‘no contact’ process keeps everyone protected, and whether they are dropping off PPE or gently used clothes and household items, their donations will support efforts that benefit this community.”
