Hawk's Gully is on the ninth section of the canal. This area is a natural water source, that prior to the canal being dug, went straight back into the Savannah River at what is now 15th St. When the canal was dug in 1845, Hawks Gully was turned into a return for the canal to return back to the river through the third level. Today it is a bulkhead gate for flood control for the Augusta Canal.

2. OFFICIAL Opening of the River Levee Trail Extension Ribbon Cutting Ceremony: Saturday, October 3 at 8:15 AM at the Entrance of Water’s Edge Neighborhood at 15th St. and Reynolds St.

During the Hawk’s Gully Hurdle 10K, the Augusta Canal Authority will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony at the entrance of Water’s Edge Neighborhood at 15th Street and Reynolds Street. Join us at 8:15 AM on Saturday, October 3 for a celebration of the final installation of River Levee Trail! We will have chairs and refreshments. Parking along Reynolds Street.
