Westobou is pleased to announce SEEDS, our sixth annual juried exhibition of small works priced at an affordable $300 or less. SEEDS opens to the public on Friday, November 6 at Westobou Gallery. New this year, Westobou presents the "Westo-boutique" in collaboration with Handmade Fair in the Gallery from December 7-19.

SEEDS pays homage to the former occupants of 1129 Broad, Simkins Seed Company. The title of the exhibition is also appropriate in describing the selected artists, who are growing and emerging as contemporary and experimental artists.

Twelve local and regional artists with a variety of artistic styles and backgrounds come together in Westobou Gallery for a unique display of works. To stay true to Westobou’s values, our 2020 juror, Karlota Contreras-Koterbay, chose artists based on quality, variety, creativity, craftsmanship and inclusivity.

As an Appalachian-based Filipinx artist, curator and art administrator, Karlota Contreras-Koterbay navigates the world through the lens of a post-colonial citizen, a cultural activist tasked to provide agency for empowerment through art. Contreras-Koterbay is Director of Tipton and Slocumb Galleries under the Department of Art & Design at East Tennessee State University. She creates work, writes grants and curates exhibitions that investigate the nuanced issues of diversity, racial/gender equity, mobility/immigration, and hybrid/liminal identities. She is a recipient of the Andy Warhol Photographic Legacy Grant, as well as state/private grants funding that provide access to diverse, inclusive and critical projects aimed to encourage discourse and collaborative engagement.

Featured artists include:

Franklin Delgado Devin Lovett
Debra Estep Sara Mays
Stephanie Hardigree Claire Pope
Clarence Heyward Jeffrey Repko
Katie Kameen Paula Reynaldi
Chase Lanier Staci Swider
