Congressman Rick Allen visited two Richmond County schools today to learn how the Richmond County School System (RCSS) has responded to reopening schools during the coronavirus pandemic. During the visit, Allen visited face to face and virtual learners at Lake Forest Hills Elementary School and Langford Middle School.

“This school year has been tough on families who are trying to navigate learning in the age of coronavirus. I’m so proud of the teachers, faculty and entire school community in Richmond County for rising to the challenge to offer both face-to-face and virtual learning,” said Allen about the visit.  “The entire Richmond County Schools team is working diligently to adapt to the challenges presented by COVID-19, all while ensuring our students don’t fall behind academically,” the Congressman added.

Allen talked with school leaders, teachers, staff and students about the first month of school.  Congressman Allen asked how the school system prepared for schools to open, the system’s COVID-19 response, safety protocols and supplies.

“I thank Dr. Bradshaw for the opportunity to see firsthand how they are keeping students safe during this time,” said Congressman Allen of the protocols for face to face students and staff.

The school system also highlighted the International Baccalaureate Program and a community partnership with Augusta University to support mentoring and training new teachers.

“We appreciate being able to share the work we are doing to keep our students and staff safe while providing quality learning options during the coronavirus pandemic with Congressman Allen,” said Dr. Kenneth Bradshaw, RCSS Superintendent.
