When Augusta University Medical Center’s Solid Organ Transplant Center was planning a raffle fundraiser for Donate Life Month, Kate Daggett knew who to call.

“I have some friends who live in Woodside Plantation in Aiken,” the senior administrative assistant for the transplant center said. “They have Pedego bikes and are always talking about how much fun they are.”

So she called Coker Day, the owner of Pedego Electric Bikes in the Village at Woodside.

“I told him about what we do and that the theme for the event was ‘life is a beautiful ride.’ I didn’t even have to make the ask,” Daggett said. “Coker immediately jumped at the chance and said he would donate a bike. I was floored.”

The Life is a Beautiful Ride theme included bicycle imagery, and raffle prizes included bike rentals along the Greeneway in North Augusta, among other things. Daggett said the Pedego City Commuter Lite, valued at almost $1,900, was the grand prize.

“I love to help out in any way I can,” Day said. “When Kate called and told me the theme, I knew it would align perfectly with Pedego and would be a great fit for us.”

Every year, the Solid Organ Transplant Center, which focuses on pancreas and kidney transplants, works with Donate Georgia and Donate Life America to raise funds for the Patient Assistance Foundation during Donate Life Month.

“The foundation helps meet the emergent needs of patients until we can get them set up to take care of their own needs,” Daggett explained. “We do a lot, but one thing we do is put patients up in a hotel who live more than 100 miles away and need to come in for their two-day pre-transplant evaluation.”
