School Counselors Offer Tips to Parents During National School Counseling Week

Thursday, February 4th, 2021

It’s National School Counseling Week and as students in the Richmond County School System are completing their second full week of face-to-face instruction in 2021, counselors are busy helping students and parents adjust to new schedules and safety protocols.

McBean Elementary School Counselor LaTrina Mitchell says, “One third of our students are returning to the school building for the first time since March 2020 and those scholars need an abundance of support to make the adjustment.”

“National School Counseling Week reminds us that the role of school counselors is extremely important to help students overcome their daily challenges. The impacts of the pandemic amplify the significance of counselors in supporting students through substantial change,” says Belair K-8 School Counselor Lyric Smith.

National School Counseling Week is February 1-5.

Richmond County School System has 87 counselors who support our 29,167 students in 57 schools and special programs.
