Ameris Bank Expands Augusta Team – Adds Two New Commercial Bankers

Ameris Bank Augusta Market President Cameron Nixon announces that Bennett Bowers and Jason Thornton have joined Ameris Bank as commercial bankers. Both will be responsible for strengthening the bank’s commercial loan portfolio and cultivating new and existing client relationships.

With over 21 years of experience, Bowers is an expert in the finance sphere. He previously worked for Security Federal Bank as their financial services officer since 2018. Bowers graduated from Spring Hill College and is a dedicated community member. He is a board member and treasurer of the Summerville Neighborhood Association, a board member of the Salvation Army since 2010, and a previous board member of Historic Augusta. Additionally, Bowers is a member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, The Augusta Georgia Kiwanis Club, the Augusta Country Club and the Pinnacle Club.

Thornton has over 11 years of experience in the banking industry. He previously worked for Synovus Bank, most recently as the retail market manager since 2014. Thornton graduated from Augusta State University with a degree in finance and enjoys giving back to his community. He is a member of the Leadership Augusta Class of 2015, a board member of Broad Street Augusta, Inc, a member of Columbia County Exchange Club and a previous board member of the Imperial Theatre. In addition, Thornton is a 2020 graduate of Richmond County Citizens Police Academy and volunteers for United Way, YMCA, Shepheard Blood Center and Child Enrichment.
