Hill Electric, an Anderson-based Electrical Contractor for Upstate manufacturers, recently hosted a session on lift safety for a class of local high school seniors at the Anderson I & II Career & Technology Center. The class, taught by David Wolke, the Director for Labor and Safety at Hill Electric, was aimed to not only teach the practical side of lift safety and fall protection, but to give students a taste of what contractors in the field experience every day.

Wolke, a certified aerial lift and fall protection trainer since 2008, began with a brief in-class tutorial on basic elements of the training, the class then moved outside to practice what they learned in a real lift. The class was part of a larger mission from Hill Electric to work within their own community.

“This was a great opportunity to work with the students at ACTC, and a chance for us to give back to the Anderson community using the skills and expertise we have been given,” said Angela Gardner, Director of Business Development and Marketing for Hill Electric. “We look forward to working alongside the Career Center in the future, and seeing these students become the next generation of leadership in Anderson and beyond.”

 Future sessions with ACTC are also in the works; Hill Electric is scheduled to train additional groups on Lift Safety and Fall Prevention, as well as speak to students about what employers are looking for and how they can boost their chances in the job market.
