Augusta’s Jobs Rate Decreases in April

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Augusta saw a decrease in the unemployment rate for April.

“We had another strong month in April,” said Commissioner of Labor Mark Butler. “We saw the unemployment rate decrease in almost every MSA, along with an over the month and over the year decrease in initial claims for every MSA.”   

In Augusta, the unemployment rate decreased by 0.3 percentage points in April, reaching at 3.8 percent. A year ago, the rate was 10.2 percent.

The labor force decreased in Augusta by 368 and ended the month with 271,964. That number is up 11,913 when compared to April of 2020.

Augusta finished the month with 261,569 employed residents.  That number increased by 497 over the month and is up by 27,927 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Augusta ended April with 237,900 jobs. That number increased by 100 from March to April and increased by 20,300 when compared to this time last year.

The number of unemployment claims went down by 11 percent in Augusta. When compared to last April, claims were down by about 89 percent.

Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 6,476 active job postings in metro Augusta for April.
