Benjamin Budenstein Receives Inaugural Sam Tyson Eagle Scout Scholarship
Thursday, July 15th, 2021
The Georgia-Carolina Council, BSA and the Augusta Kiwanis Club is pleased to congratulate Benjamin Budenstein of Evans Georgia as the first recipient of the Sam Tyson Eagle Scout Scholarship.
Benjamin, an Eagle Scout from Troop 119, was selected from a pool of applications to receive the one time $1,500 Scholarship that will be presented annually in honor of long time Augusta resident Sam Tyson. The scholarship is open to all Eagle Scout graduating seniors living in the CSRA who plan to continue their education after high school.
Benjamin, a recent graduate of Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School, will attend the University of Georgia this fall to study engineering. For his Eagle Scout project Benjamin built an outdoor classroom at his school. Working with the school principal Renee Kelly, he developed a plan, organized a group of volunteers to clear a section of land that was badly overgrown. With his leadership the group then landscaped the property and built two picnic tables and 5 benches.
While Sam Tyson was not an Eagle Scout, he was a community leader, dedicated Kiwanian and past Council President of the Georgia-Carolina Council. The Kiwanis Sam Tyson Scholarship Fund was established in his honor earlier this year by the Augusta Kiwanis Club. The endowment fund is held at the Community Foundation for the CSRA. As the fund grows it will be able to provide additional Scholarships for graduating Eagle Scouts attending continuing education. Over time it may also expand to provide multi-year awards.
The Community Foundation for the CSRA is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization. All donations to the Sam Tyson Scholarship Fund are tax-deductible. To make a gift to support the scholarship endowment fund, visit https://cfcsra.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create?funit_id=1726 .
