Helms Career Education Expands Training Programming

Monday, August 23rd, 2021

Helms Career Education (HCE), a division of Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia & the CSRA, is ramping up education and training programs just in time for the fall.  HCE provides access to industry credential training programs utilizing a holistic approach in connection with our local Job Connection – Career Centers.

Beginning in August, HCE will be offering several programs in the Augusta region including Administrative and Office Skills, Certified Medical Administrative Assistant, and Certified Flooring Installation.  Programs can be completed in as few as four weeks.

A recent $10,000 grant from Bank of America will allow Goodwill Industries to assist more unemployed and underemployed individuals. “Bank of America’s $10,000 contribution will have a big impact on our ability to provide high quality training programs aligned with local in-demand jobs,” said Leah Pontani, Goodwill’s senior vice president of career development. “We are grateful for this funding allows HCE to offer these programs at little, or in most instances no cost, for local job seekers.

Jim Stiff, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries, said the money will provide access to supplemental and necessary resources beyond basic curriculum.

“We’d love to be able to be the go-to place for anyone in the community – whether they’re somebody in their 40s looking for a second career, someone who has been a long-term welfare recipient or a junior in high school – to come in and get an industry credential.”
