Augusta Symphony Announces Gala
Wednesday, October 27th, 2021
The Augusta Symphony’s Annual Gala will be held Saturday, January 22, 2022, at the Miller Theater. The black-tie affair is the Symphony’s major fundraiser and is chaired this year by Ms. Susan Dunaway Thielke.
This season’s Gala, themed “Fly Me to the Moon,” highlights the music of Frank Sinatra. Patrons will enjoy appetizers and an open bar amongst the elegant Art Moderne beauty of the Miller Theater. Under the direction of Maestro Dirk Meyer, the Augusta Symphony and guest artist Michael Andrew will bring the sounds of Sinatra to life on stage. After the performance, the celebration continues with an evening of heavy hors d’oeuvres, divine desserts, a full bar, dancing, and a lounge experience inspired by Ol’ Blue Eyes himself.
"We are thrilled to present this very special evening after taking a pause last season,” said Anne Catherine Murray, Executive Director of the Augusta Symphony. “As our sole fundraising event, the Gala offers an opportunity to support our mission while enjoying our wonderful orchestra and an upbeat and elegant affair inside our home in the Miller Theater.”
Now in its sixty-seventh season, the Augusta Symphony is the primary professional orchestra for the Central Savannah River Area and pursues its mission “to share the joy of great musical performance with our community – together we are music” through annual symphonic, pops, and family concerts that reach approximately 20,000 people each year. Via its Community Chords education and outreach programs, the Symphony further strives to foster broad accessibility to live classical music performance and a lifelong appreciation of the art form among people of all ages, backgrounds, and means. The Symphony’s Community Chords programs currently serve thousands of youth and adults in communities within a seventy-five mile radius of Augusta.
